2011 Guam Ko'Ko' Road Race - Ekiden Relay & Half Marathon

Course

The 2011 Guam Ko’ko’ Road Race is a Half-marathon (13.1 miles or 21.0975 kilometers) and a 4-person Ekiden Relay (consisting of four legs):

  • Leg 1: 3.24m (5.38km)
  • Leg 2: 3.2m (5.15km)
  • Leg 3: 3.2m (5.15km)
  • Leg 4: 3.36m (5.41km)

Exchange Points 1 and 3 will be located on Marine Corps Drive, East Agana (close to Citibank).

Exchange Point 2 will be located on Marine Corps Drive, at the entrance of the village of Asan. Each exchange point will be set up to ensure the correct flow of relay runners through the timing frame and to the awaiting relay runner for the sash exchange. Click on the link below to view the diagrams of the exchange points set up.

The course begins at Gov. Joseph Flores Memorial Park at Ypao Beach with a hill climb and rolling slopes for the first two kilometers. The next two kilometers are relatively flat as the course winds through the residential village of Tamuning and along the west coast main thoroughfare, Marine Corps Drive, into the capital city of Hagåtña. The turnaround points for both the Ekiden relay and the half-marathon are in the village of Asan. The final leg of the course features hill climbs and a downhill slope toward the Finish Line at the Memorial Park at Ypao. The entire course is scenic and tranquil with sunrise ocean views and light, cool breezes.

Aid Stations

Water will be available at the Start and Finish lines. The first Aid Station is approximately 1.5 km from the start. Subsequent aid stations will follow at intervals of one to two kilometers. There will be a total of eight aid stations on the course, where water and electrolyte-enhanced sports beverages will be served, and First Aid and restrooms available.

Along the Course

Entertainers from the Guam Micronesia Island Fair and other civic groups from the community will be positioned along the course to motivate and cheer the runners on as they make their way to Asan and back.

Finish Area

Every runner that completes the course will receive a finisher’s medal as soon as they cross the Finish Line. Within minutes of finishing, the runner will also find an individual race results card available that details their total finishing time, split and pace time and their place overall and in their division.
